Where’s home for you?

Durham, UK.

Describe (to a 5 year old) what you do during the daytime:

I write for a newspaper.

Your age?

31.

Married, kids, etc?

Married with one daughter, 16 months.

When I grow up I want to be..

Sunderland footballer.

Tell us one thing you’re passionate about.

Truth coming out, no matter who might want to hide it.

Favourite kids’ film?

Aladdin.

Who is the best superhero?

Bananaman.

Favourite kids’ book?

Currently… Elmer and the Whales.

When I was little I wanted to be..

A sports reporter.

Tell us about someone who has been a father to you.

A trusted friend has guided me through the last seven years, ups and downs, challenges and all – most important, he’s always available to listen.

Think of a family you really admire – what do you like about them?

Devotion to one another, how they all see each other as part of one team, clear rules everyone knows and supports.

What does taking responsibility look like for you right now?

Giving up time I’d love to spend on favourite pastimes to make time for just being around.

What inspires you to take responsibility?

That Jesus gave everything for me.  To please my wife.  To have my children say I was a good dad.

What advice would I give my younger self?

You’re not as clever as you think you are!

Favourite thing to say to your kids?

It’s bathtime!

Main parenting challenge right now?

Making time for family versus earning a wage to support them.

When I became a parent I suddenly realised..

That I was about to cry…

What one change would help you most as a parent?

An energy drink?

What kind of father do you want to be?

One who, my wife first, and my children second, love and admire.
